Our Sweet Sophia was let out of the hospital on July 21st. 11 and a half weeks she was in the NICU. For almost 3 months I drove 3 to 4 times a day to the hospital, parked my car, walked down the longest hallway ever built, rang the intercom, washed my hands, got the pumping stuff from my locker, went and saw they baby, pumped, back to baby, more pumping, snack from the vending machine, more baby, more pumping, home to get David and Isa, back to the hospital, down the long hall...you get it.
We had been planning the homecoming for almost 2 weeks. The attending set a specific day, the orders for supplies were made and I started cleaning and getting ready. The morning of, the fellow gave me a thumbs up in the hallway before rounds and every single nurse came in to say goodbye. EVERYONE was planning on this. Well, everyone except the freaking DISCHARGE PLANNER!!!! He forgot to look at our discharge file so a few min after I had receive the thumbs up, the docs got news that our feeding pump hadnt been ordered. They came into the room with their heads down and Robyn (our fellow) looked like she was almost about to cry! they told me that the planner hadnt ordered the pump and we had to stay another day!!! I BURST into tears which made the attending yell at the docs "Why didnt you plan this?!" They DID plan it and the attending ran off to find a pump, which is shocking. (Heirarchy goes Attending, Fellow, Resident, Nurse, When an attending searches for something its REALLY weird) We figured out a temporary feeding solution and I was cleared to go.
Until David went to the pharmacy to get Sophias meds.....
He went out of the hospital and across the street and got hem all, except the methadone. You needed a paper Rx not electronic. Ok, so Robyn gives him the paper and she goes back. Nope, you need the triplicate Rx pad for it. Well, they cant find the triplicate form and its 20min to 6. If we dont get the methadone by 6, she cant go home. Finally, FINALLY they track down the form and he gets the meds, at FIVE minutes to 6. We were THAT close to not leaving the hospital with our baby. Whew!
Now we have her home. Seeing her smile in the hospital is NOTHING on seeing her smile OUT of the hospital! She is facinated with everything and smiles all the time. When we walk outside, she closes her eyes a little when the wind hits her face and puts her little face to the sky and smiles. Her arms are moving, she grabs at toys, she rolls to her side, shes gaining weight, shes almost giggling. We knew that if we got her home she would get better but we had no idea that in 2 weeks, she would be SO caught up!
I cant form the words to express how I feel about her being home.
Actually, Im pretty tired so Ill try bloggin more tomorrow.
